Atlanta Knights and KSU Announce the Deane Evans Memorial Classic Hockey Game

Marietta, Georgia -- Two national powers at their respective levels, the Atlanta Junior Knights Elites and the Kennesaw State University Owls face off on September 9th at the Marietta Ice Center to honor the late Deane Evans.

With the Atlanta Knights representing the highest level of U20 hockey in the Southeast region and KSU claiming similar achievements at the ACHA level, the two teams will represent the advanced level of play that the late Deane Evans devoted his life to in the greater Atlanta area for more than a decade.   Deane Evans, the father of three year veteran Knights goalie, Ollie Evans, helped create the foundation of hockey in Atlanta, initially for roller hockey and then at the travel hockey and high school level.  A coach and mentor to hundreds of players, Deane's charismatic, dynamic and empathetic personality brought a love of the game to a host of young men that still consider him the most important influence in their hockey careers.

A number of players on the Atlanta Knights and KSU rosters are products of the coaching of Deane Evans and the purpose of the game is to pay tribute to the man who helped shape the course of hockey in Atlanta.  More importantly, the passion demonstrated by both teams and the sportsmanship shown with respect to this game is a testament to what Deane believed in and created.

The 2006-2007 National ACHA Division III Owls, bring a tradition of excellence on the ice and academic achievement to this event, with the current Owls roster featuring a number of past Atlanta Knights players.  The 2009 USAH Junior National Championship Runner-up Knights offer a glimpse of the finest players of the region and they begin the pre-season ranked in the 10 ten nationally for the third straight year.

Come join the Atlanta Knights and KSU Owls, along with the Atlanta hockey community by honoring the memory of Deane Evans.  Proceeds from the game will be used to establish a scholarship in the name of Deane Warren Evans.  The puck will drop at 7:10pm, Wednesday September 9th, at the Marietta Ice Center.
