Kennesaw announced earlier that they will be guided by the new head coach Ken Honeyman, new assistant coach Chris Powers, and returning assistant coach Darren Surma. The Owls have taken long strides with Honeyman this summer learning new systems and prove that this year will be stronger than last. Announced on Sunday, the team captain this year is Forward Dylan Morrison with assistant captains being Defenseman Brett Lester, Forward Jerry Holden and Forward Chris Koutnik.
The team has not seen many changes offensively nor defensively with mostly returning players and only 5 rookies. Defensively, all 4 goalies returned this year including late season starter Ben Powers. Brett Lester leads the defensive front with all returning players Justin Blais, Hunter Gahl, Andy Buckner, Matt Howard, Sean Devine and Jared Dible. Offensively, 5 new faces join the forwards: Jean-Marc Biron, Brett Brodie, Tyler Gaby, Daniel Tari and Jason Welch. But fans will still recognize returning forwards Jerry Holden, Dylan Morrison, Ricky Lirette, Chris Koutnik, Sean Bernhardt, Jimmy Barry, Mark Barry and Nick North. Also, returning players from prior seasons Rod Johnson and Andrew Chlebek join to the roster to bring a more solid front.
Last year the Owls contended against some of the best schools in Division II and fell short during Regionals. This season proves to be just as challenging. Kennesaw will face contending schools all across the nation including the 2008 D2 National Champions Davenport University Panthers.
Come out to the Owls season opener in Marietta against the Atlanta Knights at the Marietta Ice Center at 9:30pm. If you can't make that, support your Owls as they face local rival the University of Georgia Bulldogs at 10pm at the Town Center Ice Forum.
